Polyethylene (PE) water supply pipeline popular science

temperature and pressure reduction

When the polyethylene piping system is continuously operated at a temperature above 20°C, its maximum working pressure needs to be reduced accordingly. For a specific material, if it is feasible to use a smaller reduction factor according to the analysis of GB/T 18252, a higher reduction factor can be used.

pipe color and identification

the color of

municipal drinking water pipes is blue or black. In the case of black pipe, there shall be a co-extruded blue strip with at least three color strips along the longitudinal direction of the pipe. This color and identification regulations help to quickly identify the use of pipes in construction and maintenance, and ensure the safety and specification of drinking water systems.

Relationship between

PE water supply pipe and PE pipe

PE water supply pipe is a type of PE pipe. PE pipe has a wide range of applications, covering PE water supply, PE threading, PE gas transportation and other fields. Although all three are manufactured using polyethylene, there are differences in the grade of polyethylene used.

PE polyethylene material is widely used in the field of water supply pipe manufacturing because of its excellent characteristics such as high strength, corrosion resistance and non-toxicity. Because it will not rust, compared with ordinary iron water supply pipe, PE water supply pipe has become an ideal alternative pipe, which can effectively avoid water pollution caused by rust and ensure the safety of water for residents. The national standard for PE water supply pipes is GB/T 13663 - 2000 "polyethylene (PE) pipes for water supply", which provides clear specifications for the production, inspection and use of pipes.

Polyethylene grade for

manufacture of PE pipe

When manufacturing PE pipes, PE 63, PE 80 and PE 100 are usually used. The higher the number after the material grade, the stronger the ability of the polyethylene to withstand pressure. Among them, PE 80 and PE 100 can be used to make gas pipelines because of their higher pressure-bearing capacity, providing more reliable guarantee for gas transportation; PE 63 is generally used to make water supply pipes, and its performance can fully meet the requirements of water supply systems.

Requirements for water pipes for other uses

In addition to municipal drinking water pipes, the color of water pipes for other purposes can also be blue and black. For laying pipes exposed to sunlight, such as above ground pipes, black pipes must be used. This is because the black pipe can effectively absorb ultraviolet rays, reduce the damage of ultraviolet rays to the pipeline, and extend the service life of the pipeline.

Pipe appearance and size requirements

The inner and outer surfaces of the pipe shall be kept clean and smooth without defects such as bubbles, obvious scratches, dents, impurities and uneven colors. These appearance requirements ensure the quality and performance of the pipe and avoid problems such as leakage during use due to surface defects. The pipe end should be cut flat and perpendicular to the pipe axis to ensure the tightness and stability of the pipe connection. The length of the straight pipe is generally 6m, 9m, 12m, and other lengths can also be negotiated according to the actual needs of both parties to meet the requirements of different engineering scenarios.
